The Emerson Dual Screen Portable Car DVD Player
So, we’ve just moved. (I apologize for not writing recently- packing took up most of my life this last week). And in case you don’t feel sorry for me, I got to drive the 14 hours by myself with the kids, while my husband drove the moving truck. Surprisingly, it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I am alive. But only thanks to one very important item we purchased: A Portable Car DVD Player. My girls can usually sit no more than 30 minutes watching a movie at home, so I wasn’t quite sure how this would hold their attention, but it worked wonders. I haven’t done enough research on other portable dvd players to tell you the best one out there, but I at least can tell you about the one I just bought.
The Emerson comes with 2-7″ LCD screens (a must for twins), which can both be strapped vertically to headrests. It retails for about $199.99, but many stores, including Circuit City where we got ours, have $20-50 mail in rebates. They each have their own volume control, and also have multiple headphone jacks. The price was almost unbeatable (especially for having 2 screens) and it functioned really well even after 7 straight hours, 2 days in a row. But there were a few negative points. It had a hard time reading burned DVDs, which ended up skipping a lot. And because the straps are vertical, they are only meant to go on an adjustable headrest. We had to tape the straps to the seat, which held up fine. I have yet to find a portable dvd player which straps around a seat horizontally. (I could have put the girls in the last row of seats and the DVD screens on the first row, but I wouldn’t have been able to reach them for any other imperative reason). I would defintely recommend getting a portable DVD player for any long road trip. If you get a different brand, let me know what you think.
